The original Spyker car company, having been coachbuilders since 1880, build around 1500 'horseless' cars in their Amsterdam factory between 1900 and 1926. During WWI they made without great success airplanes as well, as symbolised in the logo design from 1914 which was adopted about 85 years later by the modern company (and as you didn't fail to notice they love to throw around), probably hoping to cling to the legend of the old firm. And they should because three years after switching from coaches to motors it rolled out the "60 HP" model, the first car in the world to feature a 6-cylinder engine, AND traction on 4 wheels (decades before the Jeep), AND brakes on all 4 wheels, and mind you this was in 1903, for a Doug DeMuro of those days that must have been like a McLaren, Bugatti and Koenigsegg all in one! Another legendary feat was a Spyker coming in second in the 1907 Peking to Paris car race, probably the most gruelling race ever to have taken place that even today hardly any car would survive, only having lost to an Italian car because the Italians - as to be expected - cheated.The small original Spyker factory untill their inevitable end in 1926 produced cars that were seen as "the Rolls-Royces of the Continent" and although the Dutch in automotive terms overall haven't much to show for this much overseen part of the automobile's development history is a source of pride even today. FULL DISCLOSURE: Yes I am a Dutchman and for 15 years I lived in Amsterdam just blocks away from the original production site being well aware of it, and seeing one of the rare surviving cars of that age now in a museum (the first "60 HP" survives!) makes my blood indeed run faster. A brief look into recent developments also would have caught your attention. The modern Spyker shop shares with the old one a history of (near) bankruptcies, debt restructuring, unsuccessfull adventures (aviation in 1914-'18, Saab takeover in the 2000's) etc., but also having a hard time laying their head down. In 2016 Spyker agreed with Koenigsegg that they are going to supply a 600 hp V8 for the 2018 carbon fibre C8, which will by then the be the only manual gear box high performance car on the market, provided they don't go broke in the meantime. Shmee you would have liked the opportunity to drive that car, would you? Sadly, this January what remained of the company has again gone bankrupy after fruitless attempts to attract investments from Russia. Don't be surprised however at a new miraculous rebirth in the future.

This is a case of slower is faster. Not that fast by today’s standards but that’s not the point. That leather must smell great. And it’s a wonderful interior. I wish I could afford one of these.

I have a soft spot for Spyker ever since Victor Müller made an honest go at trying to save Saab. The man is definately worth a shout out and sadly he has lost the battle since Spyker has folded pretty recently.

Used to work at a high end country club and one of the guys had a spyker it was pretty impressive and held its own with the gt3’s bentleys Lambos and ferraris... But the an mc4-12 Maserati and f50 put everything to shame

I remember seeing the Spyder on Top Gear way back in the day, and you talked about the LM85 model with Saabkyle04 a few years back, that Spyker C8 Spyder is a truly proper machine that is, especially with THAT INTERIOR!!! Hopefully some day you will get to drive the C8 Aileron.
